First staged in 1978, Evita is Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's musical based on the life and death of political figure Eva Peron. The narrative follows Eva from her beginnings as a radio star and actress, her climb up the social ladder and finally as First Lady of Argentina.

This was a stunning production in every aspect. The costumes were excellent and the set design was fantastic. Supported by a strong soundtrack, this was a show that is very hard to fault.

Madalena Alberto was perfectly cast in the role of Eva Peron and gave an outstanding performance. Her acting skills managed to equal her incredible musical talent and she received a well deserved standing ovation at the end. Definitely one to watch, I can't remember the last time I was this blown away by a performer! Credit also has to go to the make-up department for the convincing aging of Eva Peron throughout the show.

Marti Pellow', as Che, is always well received by a Glasgow audience, and received a deafening cheer at the curtain call. It seemed that he was struggling with the role from early on although appeared to gain confidence in the second act.

Evita is a visual treat but most importantly an incredible musical performance. At 35 years old Evita is showing no signs of age and I imagine (and hope) will be staged for many years to come.

Evita is on tour across the UK.
